Like a phoenix...(situation with the hosts)

You are viewing an archived post. For historical purposes, its content has remained unchanged from when we migrated web hosts, however, any links, images, or videos included in this post may no longer work as expected or be available.

The staff thought it would be a good idea to explain more clearly to our members the situation with the hosts.

Basically, we were at a place called 000webhost. They looked awesome, because before that we were at a place called byet host (that was the 22web address), which crashed on us all the time, didn’t let certain people access the site, and didn’t even let us send email from the boards. 000webhost didn’t have any of those problems, except perhaps the second one at times.

Unfortunately, that didn’t last, as a few days ago 000webhost simply deleted our data with no warning whatsoever, saying that 1) our site was abandoned (lie), 2) our site allowed anonymous posting (another lie), and 3) our databases had “thousands of junk records” (third lie).

To make things worse, when I made the most recent database backup using their phpMyAdmin (online database management tool), their php timeout limit of 10 measly seconds cut off the export, leaving us with only a partial data. I managed to get the forums up again, but I had to splice in a part of an older backup to make up for the data that 000webhost didn’t export for us. Thus, the end result is that if your post or account was created on or after August 14th, 2011, it no longer exists. PMs sent after that time might no longer exist either, but I don’t know.

I’m sorry if you lost something important, but…it was out of the staff’s hands. Take it up with 000webhost. We (the staff) are gonna have a lot of stuff to do too with regard to re-doing various setting changes we made after August 14th.

Thanks for understanding, and bear with us. We have plans to move to a much better host. This one (0fees) is like byet (perhaps with less crashes) and so it is mainly a “transitioning” host. I.e., something to keep us online until we move to a much better, final host, which should happen some time near the beginning of next month.

In the meantime, the 4th demo is still progressing, so don’t worry about that.

Thanks for reading. -soulred12
